Can anyone please tell me the precise wording of the two questions that are asked of candidates immediately prior to their baptism? I believe the second one is the point at which the candidate kisses good-bye to the inclination, right or ability to think for themselves ever again! Any comments?

Welcom to the forum Link!!!!! Are you a Zelda fan?

Here are the questions as they have changed over the years.

    February 15, 1964 Watchtower, pg 127:
1 Have you repented of sin with such restitution as you are able,
and are you trusting in the merit of Christ's sacrifice for the
forgiveness of your sins and the basis of your justification?
2 Have you made a full consecration of yourself with all the powers
that you possess -- talent, money, time influence -- all to the Lord,
to be used faithfully in His service, even unto death?"
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    May 1, 1973 Watchtower, pg 280:
1 Have you repented of your sins and turned around, recognizing
yourself before Jehovah God as a condemned sinner who needs
salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation
proceeds from him, the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ?
2 On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for salvation,
have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to God to do his will
henceforth as he reveals it to you through Jesus Christ and through
the Bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit?
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    June 1, 1985 Watchtower, p30:
1 On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of
your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?
2 Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you
as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-
    directed organization?

Thanks for the response Teejay. It was dumb of me not to think of doing a search.

I tried search to answer your question on Zelda and no! i don;t do computer games.(Is that the right Zelda I wonder?)

The reason for my question is that my very dear wife and her JW friends seem to have a blockage when it comes to normal reasoning and I'm trying to figure out how it works.

At the moment I do not believe that it can be changed because she says she does not see the "truth" as a belief system but a way of life that everyone should subscribe to. There is nothing but nothing that will change her ideas about the "Society" being Gods sole channel of communication at the present time. As she says, it is something way beyond what is just a belief so I dont think that there is any way you can shift that sort of thing.

Even with her cooperation it would be difficult, without it it is impossible to my way of thinking but I'm still working on it!

    Thanks for the welcome.
