Town Hall Dubs at Home This Time!

You may remember my post of a few weeks ago where I took a picture of where the Dubs at Townhall Station in Sydney usually set up their stand, but they weren't there that day:

I was there at 10:30am today and there was one solitary old bloke at his post (Ozzie will be happy at the blurred nature of the photos - the low light conditions coupled with people walking past and me trying not to be seen didn't make for great photography):

THAT is how they dress for field service these days?

    GOD.. they are pathetic.

I mean.. talk about really looking like they're SELLING something. The books and magazines are placed like an advertisement.

I think it is funny as hell.. seeing what the JW's have deteriorated too in desperation.

    FUCK YOU WT..

and thank you very much Stephanus for the photos.

I wouldn't be too harsh, after all he's a 60+ bloke and it was a coolish winter morning. Still, it's hard to tell if he's wearing a tie or not under all that stuff...

That particular set up has always looked like a roadside fruit stand. You're right that it smacks of commercialism. However, the bloke couldn't care less about being helpful when I was trying to find an Awake! that had been on the stand a few weeks earlier.

I just happened to be walking in a mall in CA and ran across two JW's sitting at a table with a bunch of their litter-ature spread out on it. I was kinda put off and quite surprised that they would be taking that approach to getting new members, and, yes it did smack of commercialism. It was as if they were selling a product alongside of the cellular, jewelry, and cookie stands.

    Steph,

When you approached him re the Awake! mag, did he suggest a donation? Just curious, in view of the fact that, as has already been mentioned, it looks like a roadside stall.

BTW I was NEVER in agreement with this and when my word was a little more welcome @ Bethel, I expressed my disapproval quite loudly.

Still, I know the brother(s) quite well who have taken on this field of activity. Such a shame!

    Cheers, Ozzie

No. The conversation went something like this:

Me: A few weeks ago you had a magazine on your stand with the caption "The Police: When do we Need Them?". Do you have a copy?

    Bloke in Beanie: Nope

Me (looking through mags on stand to make sure): Are you sure?

    Bloke: Yep

Me (after further looking): Well, that's the magazine I was after...Bye!

    Bloke: Goodbye

One thing to note - you just can't get a single copy of a mag at that stand; they'll only let you buy (sorry - "donate for") a full month's worth of magazines - 2 WTs and 2 Awake!s

I've never heard of that one. How do they do it? What do they say? Do tell.

Sounds like, looks like.......................a roadside stall.

    Cheers, Ozzie

When you look at the stand, you'll see that there are no individual mags - they are all bundled in lots of four. If you try to take just one from a bundle, they'll say, "No, we only let you take a month's worth of magazines" (roughly what I've been told, but it's a few years since I had that discussion)

Actually, I might hop on the 8:52 train this morning and head back up there to try and get some more shots; there should be someone different manning the stand today. I've got an hour or so to decide whether or not to bother.
