Fascinating Violet: Here are a couple of other novel items:

George Washington was not our first President: He was not elected until 1789. In 1776, John Handcock was elected the first President of the United States and Congress. He appointed George Washington as General of the Continental Army. Handcock's signature is the largest on the Declaration of Independance, indicating his Executive role. He is the only one of the American revolution to have a bounty put on his head for his life. He financed our first three naval ships out of his own money. He went on to become Governor of Massachusettes 9 times. Today, Handcock is the second most commonly used Street name after Main Streer.

There are only 46 States in the United States: A State government is a type of government that only 46 States ever adopted. The other 4 became Commonwealths, and to this day are legally referred to as: The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Commonwealth of Massachusettes, Commonwealth of Virginia, and Commonwealth of Kentucky. The distinction between States and Commonwealth has all but vanished since their inception. We have one additional Commonwealth, but it is not yet given full status, and that is the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
