the 'NEW LIGHT'

Considering the past beliefs of JWs & the new & improved current beliefs, some changes I can recall are: the cross, smoking, what is actually 'porneia', the END --->1914, no wait... 1935... we mean 1975... well what we REALLY meant was by Y2K... by the time this generation passes away, yada, yada...

also blood issues, organ doning, who will & won''t be resurrected- what others can you all think of?

My question is this: if JWs are led by God's spirit & the org is the true channel God is using, why did the 'light' need to get brighter? Why was is it wrong in the first place?

Anyone here ever ask a JW this one?

Another change (but this was before my time) was no longer celebrating holidays and birthdays. Also the wonderful provision was allowed for the earthly class (since no more than 144,000 could go to heaven)

They feel that they just did not have the correct understanding before, that God reveals information in his own due time. I guess Jehovah enjoys confusing his people or maybe he just can't make up his mind.

The JW canned response would be, of course, not that the organization was ever wrong, but that God adjusted their thinking. Also they use illustration of tacking (ship).

You are so correct in asking this:

I seem to remember a quote from an early Watchtower on this site that said that the light of information should get steadily brighter ;and that lights were never extinguished and then re lit later; the light should be revealed in a progressive ,orderly way.

Unfortunately the society has forgotten this.

Any time I brought this up I was told that there was a refining process going on and that the society was getting more and more akin to the way Jehovah wants it as we got closer to the end.

When told the society's way was not a progressive one ,that was flatly denied ,and also the erratic way some topics were changed were explained as the society trying hard to ,work it out'(no help from Jehovah then?)

They just choose not to see it,Bad;it got so frustrating I ended up having a heated row with two of them and an elder;in the end they left me shaking with anger and frustration and I never went back.

I still can't see how intelligent people can choose to ignore it all after being made aware; let's hope that they think a little. Perhaps they were toeing the party line as an elder was present and hopefully it'll stick in their minds somewhere...

They must be in for the social benefits and to stay with family.

I was told'Do you really think Jehovah would let them run his organisation if they're as bad as you say?' !!!! How the hell do you answer such twisted reasoning??!!

thanks moejojojo- i had left out holidays, b-days- also forgot about when they added the earthly class. yes, i remember the illustration of the ship also- somehow i don't feel god's truths needed so much re-adjusting.

termite- refining process, progressive understanding- it all adds up as you say to twisted reasoning

i was given the 'jehovah reveals information as we need it' answer. anyone have other responses when inquiring on why the light was so dull in the beginning, only to be revealed 'in jehovah's due time'?

I answer, "Since it's painfully obvious they are as bad as I say, do you really think the organization they're running is Jehovah's organization, or that he has anything to do with them?" In other words, no, I don't think God lets them run His organization. Simple as that.

P.S. Isn't the official story that Jehovah runs the Org, not the bozos in Brooklyn? More cognative dissonance.
