Pick a Sin, any Sin.....

Ever notice how witnesses seem to have "selective sins"? Last I knew- gluttony was a sin, and to be avoided, yet SO many witnesses are overweight! They just think the end is coming, why be healthy, why lose weight, why work out, blah blah blah. Also, I can't even count the number of times that I've heard witnesses that get more change back, or that someone forgot they owed them money- so they didn't say anything, thinking it was Jehovahs will- helping them out or something. So much of it is personal preferences anyway. My mom always says "Go anywhere in the world- all the witnesses believe as we do, would invite you in"- blah blah blah. But, so much is personal preference as to what is "Law" and just congregational standards. In our hall, they told the brothers how to cut their hair- and they wouldn't be allowed on stage if their hair was too short- too worldy. No jean skirts for sisters. If you lived at home- you needed to be escorted to the bathroom- no matter how old you were! Granted- if you're 23 living at home (DUE TO PIONEERING MIND YOU) Mabye you don't need to go to the bathroom in the "short" (HA) two hour meeting- but regardless- if you got up- your parents would follow you. The young people were NOT allowed to congregate outside the hall- talking & fellowship was for inside, when you went out- you were just supposed to leave. In our hall, everyone competed to have the best talks- had a HUGE clock in front of the speaker to make sure he stayed on time but was VERY distracting as they watched it every 2 minutes. Guess these aren't sins- like my original posting said- In my hall- NOONE made it past age 17- except a very discreet few- in our hall- they totally ran out the young people- EVERYONE left- they really were so hard on us- wanted perfection- so the young people just EXPLODED!! My dad was a servant. NIcest guy you'd ever meet- not wrapped up in the witness BS- was NORMAL guy- they made him a servant- cause they needed him to do the accounts & run the literature counter- but said and I quote "Because you're overweight, you will mostly be a silent servant- doing accounts, etc- limited parts." GIVE ME A BREAK! I think I could write on this website for the next two years & STILL have stuff to write! They dig us so deep in a well- takes YEARS to climb out- and when you do- LOOK OUT! :-) Good luck to EVERYONE on this site. Hope you haven't abandoned GOD- just because of the weird religious cult you were in. God is great- wonderful, and has NOTHING to do with the organization! GOOD luck in the roads ahead! May they be paved & smooth :-)

They sure are selective about their "sins"....Here's a sick story for you...I moved to the south in 95 and was still in the Borg...I was single and was ready to look for a new mate...a sister approched me right away I never ended up with her but was always nice to her...and became friends...she had two children and was divorced about three yrs...I learned later that she had problems with drinking and had been DF'ed a few years proir to this...long story short...I left that Cong and started to fade out of the Borg when one day at work I noticed her out in the factory working on the project I was assigned to...we met just before lunch and she came up to me in tears...saying that she could not talk to me ...she was DF'ed again...I told her not to worry and offered a listening ear...She told me her daughter had been seduced by a guy in the cong who was inactive but his family was still very active...this guy after many months of planning kids "get-togethers"....lured her along with him..out of state for two months on the road...buying her things and having his way with her...during her absence her mother was devistated...she was advised not to go to the autorities...that this man was in contact with his "wife and they were trying to lure him back...she said the pressure of waiting led her to drink again...and she was caught by someone and wound up getting DF'ed...do you believe that....the kicker is ...I know two of the guys who she said was on her committee...I personally seen both men drunk after drinking for hours on end..( I was visiting one of them and did not drink myself)...but these guys had the nerve to do DF this poor sister while their own behavior deserved the same punishment they subjected her to...I guess they are untouchable...she went on to tell me her daughter was back with her and she was "OK"...she said she was being advised not to press charges on him...I advised her to ignore what they told her and take the guy to the authorities and get him into prison...She followed my advice...he was sent to prison..."do as I say...NOT as I do"...many. many more cases just like this one....selective sins...

Thanks for sharing your story....keep posting.

After reading so many stories on this forum it is amazing how JW's have changed their views and how congregations differ from one area to another. When did drinking become a no no. My brother who has been a full pledge JW for about 55 years drank beer. I have not been around him in years so I don't know if he is still drinking. He didn't drink and get drunk. He just drank a few beers. I know smoking was forbidden in our congregations in the south but when I lived in the great north west I remember a JW that smoked cigars. It was strange to see him with a cigar.

As far as the teenagers congregating outside of the hall, thats exactly what we did. As soon as the meeting was over...........outside we went into our groups. When the weather was cold we gathered in cars. My best memories were after the Thursday night meetings we packed into as many cars as was needed and went to a drive in eating place called Genes Pig and Chick. There we would wait on the others from the west congregation to join us. Our parents considered it Theocratic socializing!

I've been out for so long that I don't know or have not heard of a lot that I read here. One of these days I'll tell my story. Everybody hang in there as life does get better even if your family disowns you. Remember........they have to disown you. This is just one of things they have been brain washed with.

SweatPea...I think the problem wasn't that she drank...let me clarify what I was saying...she had gotten drunk...drunk enough to get the attention of one of the Borg and then was called up on it....she was considered by them to be an alcoholic....Yea Right...and what did the jerks who DF'd her think they were if she was.....sorry for leaving out some of the details...

Wow! Sounds like the hall you went to was really ran by some nutjobs!

If I'd have been in a hall like that it would have been really easy for me to tell them to go and F*** themselves!

Hi! Are you Sweet Pea or Sweat Pea?Just wanted to tell youI I like your picture....Looks familiar though!

I too have seen some pretty stupid things at the K.H...Talking about getting drunk..A Ministerial servant and his wife took my hubby and I out one night and got us rip-roaring drunk..for the first time! They did that several times after that..only I didnt drink so much next time...They loved to go out drinking..his wife thought it was so cute!

They didn't warn us that liquor doesn't hit you right away! What nice friends they were!

I wonder why they didn't get disfellowshipped???

It all depends on what Hall you go to!!

GoldenGirl....not only what Hall you go to...it's also what area of the country your in...The South in general is down on drinking period...but that seems to be changing..the Bible belt is "unbuckling"...so to speak...The experience I related was in the southern USA....I'm originally from the north and it is much more tollerant up there....especially when All those in charge are all heavy, heavy drinkers and some are down right drunks...but they run in clicks and hide the facts....Don't get me wrong...I like to drink, mostly beer and enjoy it...but when you go after people with a problem and DF them so that they are cut off from their families and on the same turn...go out and engage in the same behavior...something is wrong with that picture!!!!.....Before I left the Borg....I ran into alot of heavy drinkers here in the South....some were even brought to the attention of the Elders...all those I knew of were brothers...all didn't even get reproof except for one who was involved in a serious car wreck...but the one sister I knew of was DF'ed twice...the second time was after her daughter was swept away by a so called brother....They just keep making up ways to protect the selective few in their ranks...it is selective...it is hypocritical, it is disgusting....but its happening in abundance.....sorry for being so long winded...but I hate hypocrites!!!!!.........CC

    PERFECTION SEEKER!!

There is alot of sins going on outthere in the hall.Especially among the Elders.I would say that if you could get all the Elders around the world standing on a line and then each of them truthfully spoke up about what they all done secretly in their homes,at work or in their lives as JW then 70% of them would either be D.F. or have to step down as an Elder.

I know of many things and way of livings among Elders (secretly ofcource) that if it was revealed then they would surely get punished.(but I wont tell anyone, lol). The problems is that they can sit themselves and judge people, brothers and sisters for something that they themself are doing secretly!!

What an Hypocrisy! They have their own bag stuffed with sins (that they hide) but are quick to reveal others and then judge them. I was an Elder for many years so I know what I am talking about ( I was not better than anyonelse) I am now D.F. since 1 month ago and its amazing how clear one can see things now when one am out from JW.

    Hugs from a siner
