The following quote is taken from The Times.

    Gummer attacks Jehovah's Witnesses

    BY GREG HURST

A FORMER Cabinet minister accused Jehovah’s Witnesses of being heretical yesterday and said that their doctrines were probably “fraudulent”.
John Gummer (C, Suffolk Coastal), the former Environment Secretary and Agriculture Minister, made a series of outspoken remarks as the Commons passed a Bill to allow priests and clergymen to sit as MPs. Mr Gummer said that Jehovah’s Witnesses were “heretical and potty”.

However, the full transcript of the House of Commons debate is even more interesting!
You can view the full account by following two links at the bottom of this message but if you trust me, here is the best part!

"Jehovah's Witnesses hold a belief that is provably fraudulent and wrong. It is right to be tolerant, but not to be ignorant. Jehovah's Witnesses base their faith on doctrines that are propounded by a crook and a fraud who was arrested and found guilty as such in court. For us not to make that perfectly proper distinction is to mislead our constituents."

And one week later The Times prints a counter-view.

    FRIDAY MARCH 09 2001

    Jehovah's Witnesses

    FROM MR ANTHONY STENNETT

Sir, A recent exhibition at Lancaster University in commemoration of the Holocaust showed how thousands of Jehovah’s Witnesses, marked by a purple triangle, died alongside Jews in the German concentration camps. The reason was their refusal to involve themselves in the politics of the Third Reich and insistence on primary allegiance to God, which led them into conflict with the Nazi Party dictate for all citizens to “Heil Hitler”.

To this day their beliefs preclude attending patriotic ceremonies, serving in the Armed Forces, joining a political party, running for political office or voting for a political party in any country. It is therefore unlikely that members from this group would seek to benefit from the Removal of Clergy Disqualification Bill to serve as an MP.

Mr John Gummer’s comments (report, March 2), while deeply offensive, betray a basic lack of knowledge of social history.

Those of us who know and work with Jehovah’s Witnesses see them as law-abiding members of the community who do not seek to force their belief on others. Mr Gummer would do well to follow their example.

    Yours sincerely,
    ANTHONY STENNETT,
    Turner’s Lodge, The Low Mill,
    Caton, nr Lancaster LA2 9HY.
    March 6.

Further insight on how Britains politicians view JW's.
Now it's the turn of New Labour.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    13 Dec 2000 : Column 696

Our future depends on our mobilising the abilities of a well-educated, highly trained and well-paid work force so that Britain can compete in the world on the basis of creative design and innovative science and technology.

As the Conservatives, driven by pseudo-nationalism and xenophobia, become the Jehovah's Witnesses of British politics, British business becomes increasingly confident about new Labour's vision of Britain's economic future.

Bullshit. I hate shabby journalism, even though I'm a demonized apostate. WHO is this "crook" and "fraud" who was "arrested and found guilty?" And more importantly, was he found guilty of anything that would make the argument that the JW religion is false? I think not. This is all bullshit and detracts from the good word that honest people (as opposed to shithead LIARS in the press) are doing.

I'm disgusted with people who lie when there are serious issues to deal with.
