MOUNT DORA, Fla. – A convicted sexual predator who won the lottery is now facing a lawsuit.

Timothy Poole recently won the lottery and was awarded a $3 million check.

Now, two boys who say Poole molested them in 1996 are suing him.

“So, he hits the lottery, wins $3 million, so they figure, ‘Hey, we can finally recover and help compensate us for some of the emotional mental abuse,” said Eric Dubois, a legal analyst.

The lawsuit claims the victims, who were just 9-years-old and 5-years-old at the time of the crime, need to be compensated for their pain and suffering that was inflicted upon them by Poole.

The damages listed in the lawsuit include suffering from physical pain, post traumatic stress disorder and severe depression.

The complaint also says “treatment will continue throughout the rest of their lives.”

“20 years ago, why would you ever pursue it?” asked Debois. “Because the odds are he’s never going to have any money.”

As soon as the check is cashed, the lottery winner could spend it all.

That is why the victims’ attorney also filed an emergency motion to freeze his winnings.

“If we don’t freeze it now, he’s going to spend it. He’s already fled the state once when he was arrested in New York. He’s a flight risk. He’s got $3 million, he can essentially buy his ticket to any place in the world,” he said.

This is good. The victims should get the money.

so,-- how many of these suits are money-grabs with convenient memories?

If this was a previously proven criminal conviction, by all means turn the money over to the victims, even that will not cover the damage, but---

Are they real victims, or opportunists?

If the perpetrator is indeed guilty, was it proved and was he punished through the justice system?

If so, then sure! Go for "compensation".

Why should the victims get anything?

If he had a job, would they get something from that every month? He is not under obligation to support them.

Of course - The complaint also says “treatment will continue throughout the rest of their lives.”, that way they can beg for more money.

I don't agree that they should get some of the money, unless that was part of his sentence.

If he fulfilled his sentence then leave him alone to move to some where away from everyone.

How does a conviction and sentance from years ago award the victims part of a lottery winning? We were awarded $10,000 by a judge from former tenants who will quit working and move away as soon as they are found, making the award useless. The amount of money spent to sue these people was more than anything we have, or likely will, ever get out of them.

Child abuse vicitims don't have a statue of limitations. The circumstances surrounding those cases are also complex. This person winning the lottery has dirty laundry that is now coming back to bite him . GOOD! He does not need to be allowed to get away with what he did if the lawsuits are legit.
