    Desmond Doss was a private in the US army and was credited with saving the lives of 75 men during the battle of Okinawa.

    Doss received the medal of honor from president Harry Truman in 1945 and was awarded two bronze stars and three purple hearts for his service.

    Doss a Seventh Day Adventist refused to carry a gun even in training was ridiculed but later was respected when he showed everyone what he was made of.
