  That's an interesting site - I noted that quite a few congregations (at least the local ones I found) listed an elder as a fundraiser. One of them (in one of the poorest cities in Canada) has assets of over half a million dollars and took in revenue of about $150,000 in 2011, with expenditures of about 1/2 that.

  The title of "fundraiser' would indicate that they are using the title to qualify as a non-profit under the Charities Act of Canada.

  As in...if you are a charity, you require some dude with that title - charities work on donations and somebody has to be in that position for the non-profit to retain non-profit status.

  Or to apply for goverment funding under charitable organization project funding.

  The title is just part of the non-profit system in Canada.

  Do not the authorities monitor these rubber stamped documents to verify just where the money is going?

  Sometimes they do. It is part of the audit process but it isn't done in detail all the time. Canada has an over-worked government check system.

  I looked up my old congs and they are all the same, 70% and 30%, and there is always an elder called a "fundraiser", along with "director" and "trustee". Must just be how they do the tax stuff.

  Assets include the Kingdom Hall itself, one of my old congs. had their own hall and moved into another with other congs and I see when they moved, their assets dropped by over $400,000.

  That's what I figured the assets reflected, but I keep hearing people say on this DB, that the congregations sign over the Kingdom Hall to the Society, but I guess that even if they have a leasehold agreement, the building would be considered an asset on the FS? It's been about 20 years since I studied, but it also seemed to me that their assets shoud be the same as their liabilities, but that is not an annual report in details. Kind of interesting, how much they 'took in' in one year, in one of Canada's poorest areas. That's a lot of bucks

  That website is simply scraping info from the CRA site, and filling in their own verbiage. JW's do not use the word "fundraiser" in their returns.
