Did you know it was not Iran who got upset with Rushdie's "Satanic Verses"? The Islamic Zealots often found themselves at odds with the governments they were under, leaders during the great Islamic Expansion were not zealous religious leaders but men looking to expand their empire and secure more money to fuel their empire. The leaders were scrutinized by Zealots who had nothing better to do than walk around and point their fingers at non-Muslims forcing a conversion or demanding the "Jibyza Tax" from anyone who would not follow the zealous religious leaders. The article mentions how "The Satanic Verses" had a book review done in the Newspaper in Iran and only after intense pressure from radicals from other Islamic religions did great Khomeni send out his Fatiwah.

That would seriously degrade their level of scientific acumen, how many experts are on record to have pronounced themselfs to be Atheists just to be on good terms with their perceived peers?

Your watched closely by the religious to make sure your at prayer, there is another article explaining how troublesome it is to be a atheist in a country where your view "Allah does not exists" can land you in jail with plenty of fines until you recant your view that "Allah is Great". Do you see how tolerance is leading to the death of those who are tolerant? The radicals will always take control over the mellow people who accept others for what they are, being passive is no longer a option any more and I think we are going to see a change over the next few decades that shows we made some big mistakes to the wrong people.

    Prologos,

Are you seriously putting forward the claim that many experts publicly claim to be atheists "just to be on good terms with their perceived peers?" Seriously? How about they claim to be atheists because they ARE?

    What an ignorant statement.

I am truly ignorant in this particular matter, but think, that if pushed in an interrogation with the integrity of their neck at stake, that most technicians/ scientists would be open to the suggestion that there is possibly some future discovery hinting at some kind of creator/ god (=Allah in Arabic), -- without lying.

Such jailers would probably be not interested to discuss the fine points of the reason why you believe so adamantly that the universe made itself.

My comment was not meant to question the excellent contribution the sciences have made to where we are as humans today, but on the shortsightedness of making religion a part of your right to residency.
