I have been following the Oscar Pistorius trial, and as some of you would know, the way he grew up is said to have affected his psychy. He's said to traumatised and disturbed by his past. Do we know if there are any ex-JWs who were also diagnosed with the same or similar kind of mental illness/disorder? as a result of growing up in a stressful environment that is the Watchtower?

I suppose every Watchtower exiting person experiences some level of "Generalized Anxiety Disorder" (GAD) as they abandon the supposed security of their sometimes lifelong "cult identity" and try to discover their suppressed "authentic identity".

When you did not think the ground under your feet could move it is a great big shock when it does.

For current members, one imagines Cognitive Dissonance (CD) can create GAD.

I've followed the trial closely and must admit the GAD stuff struck a real cord with me. I'm not diagnosed and likely never will be but i see a lot of the signs in myself.
