Presumably, this title means that these are cities where people say they feel happy. Many countries seem to run these survey results from time to time. There's even one in Aussieland. Can't remember which city got the gong, though.

In the Chinese survey, they measured indices such as income, expenditure, social security, and life quality.

The city that seems to have received the top spot is Haikou on the island of Hainan (Not far from Vietnam). With a semi-tropical climate it would be a nice place to live.

Tianjin, a half hour ride on a 250 kmh train from Beijing (and the area where the western powers invaded China (again in 1900), Tianjin is probably a very nice city in which to live.

Hangzhou - one of my favourite cities to visit , came in nineth place. The image selected shows part of the shoreline of the famous West Lake.

Marco Polo says he visited this city, and said that it was the most beautiful city he had ever seen. I guess he was contrasting it with European cities, which would look considerably better now than then

In 16th spot, is Huzhou, also in Zhejiang Province (as was Hangzhou). Havn't been anywhere near, so I cant comment.

and No. 18 is Mianyang in Sichuan Province. I've not been there either, but if you like 'hot' food, you'd like it too, as food is seasoned with Chilis abd a very hot local pepper.
