The bibles cost them much more than a tract or magazine to produce, and if someone accepts a bible on its own, they may find out what it really teaches.
Much cheaper to give them the WT's book on what the Bible teaches, and no fear of them finding out what it really teaches from that rubbish book.
Good thing the witlesses are not allowed to do Jupiter squares or other magick. Imagine how much their timing would improve if they did that--I remember averaging roughly one set of rags per 32 1/2 door knockings, by estimate (of course, I rarely followed up). Imagine doing Jupiter squares and getting that down to one set of rags per 16, or 12, doors. More people at home, more people ready at the time, more people studying, more people attending boasting sessions, more people doing field circus, more baptisms. And more congregations going from broke to enough to trigger bleeds into the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund each month.
As is, it is mostly wasted time. As the witlesses cannot do magick, they cannot improve their odds. Not only do they go out when the planets are in bad signs, but they do nothing to improve the odds. They can have the perfect presentation, but if they get there when no one is home, the householder is busy, or they are simply not in the mood (or have their computer handy so they can cross-research), it will do them no good. Working with the planets, however, could have allowed them to focus on when people are home, and get them interested. Jupiter squares, among other things, improve timing so you get fewer dead calls, fewer not homes, and fewer people caught at bad times. Of course, Jupiter squares would get the witlesses disfellowshipped.
