A friendly message with regard to the use of cell phones.

We have all the reasons to minimise its use, and try to put it on speakerphone whenever possible keeping it away from your head and body.

iPhones particularly should not be carried on the body.

Thank you for posting this. All these modern gadgets we use have only three possibilities: they are biologically good for us, biologically neutral, or biologically harmful. There are no other alternatives. The history of such post industrial-revolution mechanical devices, esp. electronic ones, have consistently been shown to be harmful to the natural elements of the world, including our persons. All one need do is think of the internal combustion engine. Who will give up this way we are all used to of getting around?

The cell phone industry, is indeed, as the vid points out, acting in the pattern of the tobacco industry's earlier history. However, the fact that so many people have become dependent on them, THAT THEY ARE SO CONVENIENT, and that we have become so used to that convenience, will make it very hard for most people to even consider giving them up or cutting back on their use---until disaster strikes and the user develops cancer, even as the victims in this video indicate. One is reminded of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" here.

A court case in Italy last year reversed the trend in western lands of governments rejecting the scientific studies done by Scandanavian researchers into the harm of cell phone usage. Of course the Scandanavians have always been more attuned to safety than other western cultures.

As with polluting the earth with our transportation system, we are nearly all guilty here. Your suggestions are wise (except maybe that speakerphone which would destroy the privacy we wish when talking!). One more help: since the cell phone is continuously emitting radiation when on, even when we're not talking on it (because it is always seeking out the nearest tower), to stop the radiation completely, we need to turn it completely off when not using it.

A friend of mine is a radio-ham. He told me the walk about phones we see everywhere that operate in your home (not cell phones as such) emit 2 gigs of power. and what does that mean ?

The first microwave ovens used 2 gigs of power.!!!!

While I agree that cell phones should be used sensibly, there's very little evidence for harmful health effects caused by their radio transmitters. Simply taking the time to understand the difference between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, along with the methods of signal strength and -absorbtion measurement ought to help bring some sense into the discussion.

@L3G: The Swedish researcher who keeps getting his results questioned isn't "dissed" by the scientific community because he's telling uncomfortable truths, but because his methods are scientifically questionable. Please don't just repeat conspiracy theories without taking the time to actually apply some critical thinking to them.

@zeb: The last sentence applies to you too. "2 gigs of power" doesn't make any sense at all. What you're probably trying to say is that phones and microwave ovens both work in the 2 GHz spectrum, which is only true for very loose definitions of the 2 GHz spectrum (your definition would need to encompass a band from a few hundred MHz to about 5 GHz). The important difference, though, is that a microwave oven might be converting some 1000 W into radiation and heat, while a cell phone works with closer to 2 W.

I'm on my tablet right now, so editing isn't very easy, but please google "conspiracy theory detector" and read the excellent Scientific American article by Michael Shermer.

The world literally thrives of fear-based stories and, as the astute Michael Moore has stated so frequently, the purpose of the media is to fill this need. Fear sells. Fear motivates. Every new invention elicits fear-based warnings. Microwaves were supposed to lead to birth deformities (especially if pregnant women hopped inside one for a few spins), televisions were said to emit harmful rays and needed to be viewed from a healthy distance.

What the world needs now are more fear-based stories. Progress = fear.

Yeah all that stuff in the OP is horse shit. Cell phones are safe. The radio waves literally pass right through you. They physically cannot do any damage.
