Think of the Witness TV could give

Television is the undisputed king of information. Hundreds of channels, hundreds of topics..... 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
Yet instead of taking the "truth" to the masses over the worldwide tv airwaves, JW's ignore the mass media, prefering instead the door to door approach of the first century CE. WHy?

I have my ideas..... what are yours?

They want person-to-person control on what is being taught. When they do a bible study with a person, they can guide and control the persons "conclusions" (aka: tell them what to think).

If they were to broadcast programs, they would loose that control.

Their refusal to spend the money to go on television -- of course they have no problem with producing VHS tapes for which they can collect donations -- speaks eloquently about the sincerity of their claim that the JW message is the only one that can rescue billions of mankind-- including infants -- from imminent destruction.

To the JWs who object saying that many if not most of their army of door knockers would hang back and let the t.v. do the work, I say it's no excuse, given the immensity of the bloodshed they foresee, to at least supplement the preaching work with a t.v. campaign which concludes with an urgent appeal to ``seek further assistance from the next JW that knocks on your door.''

Sending the JWs out to mindlessly knock on doors is cheap and keeps the presses running, the Bethels employed and the masses busy and out of mischief. It's common knowledge that the whole enterprise is a pathetic charade, little more than a palliative feel-good excersize for the average JW.

I'd have to agree on the money issue. For them to get any commercial ad or program up to the feel-good warmly-lighted fuzzy-edged schmaltsze of a Mormon commercial, they're talking serious design and production costs. Fuck, they'd have to hire some non-JW who could actually *portray*, because who the hell ex-district convention soundtrack-pantomimist could pull that off?

The following was in the "Announcements" section of the May 2002 KM (canadian edition):

The branch office has prepared a public service announcement that is now being aired on many television stations in Canada. It is entitled Love Builds Happy Families. Viewers are encouraged to contact the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for more information.
This could be the start of the WT using TV as a preaching method, or a one-off response to the child-abuse issue. Time will tell.

Here is one of the ads: http://www.jw-media.org/edu_videos/psa_02lo.htm

However, unless they are willing to pay for TV time, not much is going to happen with it. By the way, the one about hard times is really a downer - they're not going to get much response with that one.
