    Hello everyone,

My spouse is looking for a reference. They are looking for an article from the 70s where the WT says that the governing body is the FDS. Does that exist.

I guess what I'm asking is for a timeline of changes showing when the WT said the FDS is the governing body vs the fds class.

This might get you started, though it doesn't include the lastest changes:

    *** w72 8/1 p. 458 par. 11 Loving Oversight of the Congregation of God ***

Moreover, the governing body is made up of members of the “faithful and discreet slave” class mentioned at Matthew 24:45-47, and it represents that class.

    *** w72 12/15 p. 755 Do You Submit to Christ’s Headship Today? ***

A similar body of anointed Christians functions now. This governing body is the administrative part of a “faithful and discreet slave” or “steward” class concerning which Jesus promised: “His master . . . will appoint him over all his belongings.” (Matt. 24:45-47; Luke 12:42-44) So, recognition of that governing body and its place in God’s theocratic arrangement of things is necessary for submission to the headship of God’s Son.

    *** w87 7/15 p. 19 par. 13 Prayers Require Works ***

Because Jehovah God does not give his holy spirit apart from his Word, and we cannot hope to receive holy spirit if we ignore the earthly channel Jehovah is using today, “the faithful and discreet slave,” represented by the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Without help from this “slave,” we would neither be able to understand the full import of what we read nor know how to apply what we learn.—Matthew 24:45-47.

    *** w09 2/15 p. 28 par. 17 They “Keep Following the Lamb” ***

The faithful and discreet slave today is represented by the Governing Body, who take the lead and coordinate the Kingdom-preaching work throughout the earth.

They didn't equate the GB with the FDS until 2012, but they did say the GB 'represented' the FDS - 'represented' in the sense of acting as an agent or representative for the FDS - not that the GB = the FDS.

    w71 2/1 p. 81 par. 26 Proclaiming Good News World Wide

Today the organization that God has raised up for preaching the good news of the Kingdom also has a governing body. It represents the “faithful and discreet slave” class of anointed Christians that Jesus spoke about in an illustration at Matthew 24:45 to 47. These fulfill their responsibility to provide spiritual food “at the proper time,” doing so through the governing body.
