I recently received an alert from Norton anti virus that file C:\WINDOWS\Tempory Internet Files\Conrent.IE5KTIN81.2F\vcounter[1].htm was infected with a Trojan Horse. I tried to repair but couldn't so I quarantined it and attempted to submit to Symantec research centre......they didn't want it saying it was non repairable, they knew about it and to delete the file and replace if necessary eeeeerrrrr ddddooooo. I sent it anyway because I didn't want it either and I'm not sure I'm capable of deleting the file.

So anyway, quarantine is now showing empty and a recent scan of my hard drive is clean. Does this mean submitting the file has cleared it off my system and if not how do I delete the file and replace it????

Symantec will not give me online support as they say my software is out of date (I only installed it 18 months ago) and the knowledge base is no help.

Any help anyone can offer is appreciated.

If subsequent scans by Norton AntiVirus come back clean, it should mean your system is okay!

trojan files aren't the same as files infected by viruses. It's safe to tell norton to quarantine or delete it. (it's just an html file anyways)

    Yeah, don't worry... it's gone.

Have a look at http://www.spiesonline.com and take a look from the menu on the left for Spyware removal free software program Adaware. This will continually cleanse your system too. The CAN network members use it on their intranet so should be verified as safe.

You might also want to take a look at http://www.zonealarm.com

Here is a link to a really great Trojan Remover program. http://www.simplysup.com/tremover/

You can download it and use for a trial basis for free. I used it a few years ago and it cleaned a trojan right out of my computer.

You could also go to trendmicro.com they have a free program that does "housecalls". I have used it many times and it picked up what McAfee and Norton did not.
