Civil Rights, Gays And A Moment Of Optimism

I'm not an optimist by nature. Usually, I have to really work at feeling anything in that direction.

Here of late, I've felt very down because the US seems to be drifting into fascism - while I would Really Like To Believe that we may enter a Golden Age of free energy, abundance and liberty. It's been tough....

However, I then think about all the amazing changes that humans continue to make - even when it takes effort and sacrifice to do so. I ask myself:

How the heck did we ever accomplish civil rights - and overcome apartheid? Why should we care? Why should we obsessabout it? Why should Paula Dean have to go thru contrition? Who cares about Africa? In truth, "I" didn't have anything to do with it - "worldly people" did it all.

The success of civil rights stunned my Watchtower faith in fallen human failure. Puny humans weren't supposed to succeed in such a vast moral campaign. They're just "worldly people" who deserve to die at Armageddon !!!

It's a reminder that there is more to life than money or position. Warts and all, it's a good thing.

And then there's gays. How did 1% of the population get equal treatment under law (mostly)? And most amazingly, how did this happen while AIDS emerged? History says they should be demonized.

But it happened, all the same.

Maybe we are moving towards acceptance of everything that awaits us outside of this earth - once we've managed to accept each other, without violence and oppression.

Maybe our governments will stop trying to spy on everyone in a paranoid, fearful way. Maybe the TBTJ Banks will fade away. Maybe governance becomes transparent.

This is how I stay sane (more or less) amidst all the present chaos - and all that is likely to happen: we've come this far, maybe we'll make it all the way into a golden age of freedom. There's so much good that's already happened that I never thought would be possible.

Try not to feel down Metatron...I know it can be hard when all around you appears to be turning to custard. But this is only a moment in history. Super powers have come and gone...and been replaced by new super powers. It is a cycle that is part of 'civilized' society as we know it.

I do think that with every generation society improves slightly...each year we are becoming more accepting of others and their differences. All it takes is for good people to stand up and be counted. Peaceful protest is far more powerful that you would imagine.

Another weird thing: does it ever seem as if ordinary people are behaving better than our leaders? That may relate to Iceland's experience as well.
