We Demand The Freedom to Say That One plus One = Two !

  In George Orwell's masterpiece "1984" Winston Smith makes the following observation about the State he was living under :

  "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. His heart sank as he thought of the enormous power arrayed against him, the ease with which any Party intellectual would overthrow him in debate, the subtle arguments which he would not be able to understand, much less answer. And yet he was in the right! They were wrong and he was right. The obvious, the silly, and the true had got to be defended. Truisms are true, hold on to that! The solid world exists, its laws do not change. Stones are hard, water is wet, objects unsupported fall towards the earth's centre. With the feeling that he was speaking to O'Brien, and also that he was setting forth an important axiom, he wrote:
  
  Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows. "

  In Watchtower land, one may falter at the thought of the massive power of "The Society" The arguments may seem overwhelming, if you follow their chain of thought .The elders have real power to mess up your life totally and that of your loved ones since they too suffer badly if you are ejected from the congregation - but in fact one is asked to accept the impossible as truth, can you do that?

  "He evidently meant that the lives of the anointed who were on hand when the sign began to become evident in 1914 would overlap with the lives of other anointed ones who would see the start of the great tribulation. That generation had a beginning, and it surely will have an end"

  IMHO that is abject nonsense and simply redefines the meaning of the word. If it were so then I would be of the same generation as Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955) Pur-leeze! , and the Watchtower stalwarts A H Macmillan, Fred Franz and Nathan Knorr . The dictionary definition and common usage of the word make this impossible , unless you follow the explanation of The Watchower - after all, that article says that it was revealed by The Holy Spirit..........

  Any thinking Jehovah's Witness must surely recognize that one generation plus the next. equals two generations not one, or as Orwell expressed it, that 2 & 2 =4 . Their situation is that loyalty demands that everything "The obvious, the silly, and the true have got to be defended." on pain of excommunication. Dubs should be demanding the freedom to say that 1 plus 1 =2 .

  Separation of Powers

  You already have it...walk away, fade away, disappear. The book 1984, in my estimation, wasn't a story about a totalitarian regime as much as it was a testament to freedoms. Winston realized what he was part of and dealt with it in a way many in the book did not. They, too, must have realized but were too fearful or too in awe to do something.

  Sometimes I wish I were simply a "prole" then I wouldn't have to deal with anything but the issues of ordinary existence.

  The first thing a person must recognize about the WTS is that it is a fundamentalist sect. One of the basic tenets of fundamentalist belief is that the holy spirit dictated every word of the Bible. That belief opened the door to an eisegetical interpretation of Scripture, meaning that cherry-picking certain passages and ignoring their historical and linguistic context enabled the interpreter to project his own personal feelings into the Bible.

  This started with Charles Russell and was further amplified by Joseph Rutherford. But with the rise of Frederick Franz as the “seer and oracle” for the WTS and the creation of a quasi-clergy class (zone, district and circuit overseers as well as local elders) to impose his visions on all other Witnesses, a rigid orthodoxy became acceptable in the organization.

  The George Winstons were hunted down and expelled. The autonomy of individual congregations was abolished. A rebellion against the WTS president gave rise to the leadership of the Governing Body. That has now morphed into the collective papacy now in control.

  The upshot has been a religion that is now a spiritual police state. Individuality—condemned as “independent thinking”—is being systematically scrubbed turning Witnesses into drones. Anyone valuing his freedom has fled for they realize they no longer have a place in the organization. Only an implosion will change matters. The organization has weathered the external opposition although that is still a concern and problem. It is the internal enemy which the Governing Body fears most. Should that “fifth column” ever awaken, the WTS will be finished.

  Some do demand it and they either leave in mind or they leave in mind and body. Good thoughts and points, Blues. May every JW, from the top to the bottom come to demand the freedom to state that one plus one equals two. Good to hear from you.

  Thanks to all.... It reminds me too of that "Solomon Asch " psychology experiment in which he demonstrated that the majority of people will go along with the group in accepting a wrong answer to a simple question of judgement, even if their senses tell them differently

  In J W World , conformity is everything. They want to be respected in their world which is far more important than "The Old World".They are not to trust that - but respect the WTS in everything....compliant, willing sheep or proles who have chosen the blue pill.
