On the Q&A portion of his TV show, Pat Robertson was asked by a woman how she can forgive her husband for cheating on her.

She said she had tried and failed to do so.

Robertson started by saying the wife needed to understand: "He's a man."

Robertson then interjected, saying, “Here’s the secret,” looked into the camera, and said (in a slightly exasperated tone), “Stop. Talking. About. The. Cheating. He cheated on you. Well, he’s a man, okay.”

Among the other tips and thoughts Robertson presented:

    • “Recognize, also, like it or not, males have a tendency to wander a little bit, and what you want to do is make a home so wonderful that he doesn’t want to wander.”
    • Focus on why you married him in the first place.
    • Does he provide food, shelter, clothing? Is he nice to the children and does he do things with them?
    • “Is he handsome?”
    • Fall in love with him all over again.
    • Touch his face, hold his hand, look into his eyes.
    • Don’t focus on what makes you mad, just the good stuff.
    • Give him honor.
    • Keep in mind that there’s a lot of pornography out there, to which men are enticed every day.

Robertson ended his monologue by suggesting, “Thank God you have a marriage that is together, that you live in America, and that good things are happening. Okay, next question.”

    HERE IS MY QUESTION...

WOULD THE WATCHTOWER SOCIETY AGREE WITH PAT ROBERTSON IN HIS ADVICE??

Will, the WT wants us to forgive sexual abusers of children. So yes I think the WT would agree with Pat Robertson except to them he belongs to a demon religion so they would not admit to it. Totally ADD

Does anyone recall Selma and Steve. Altho there was no need to raise the issue in their article, the WT recounted how Selma was physcially and emotionally abused by Steve. Her great WT study leader told ner not to complain but be a good wife. Fifteen years later, Steve becomes a Witness. The Society left us hanging whether Steve continued to abuse after becoming a Witness. I vote for continued violence.

Perhaps Pat Robertson read the WT or Awake!. He has a host of verbal tics. Perhaps he figures any publicity is better than no publicity. It increases his brand recognition.

While both Robertson and the old men of the WTS believe women should be kept in their place, the WTS does allow a woman to make a choice in case of adultery (which of course must be confessed or else witnessed by two or more people).

This sexist attitude is sometimes expressed by elders, sadly, as if it is the woman's fault if the man cheats. It never seems to work the other way, if women cheat, their husbands are never counseled that it is their fault for not showing the wife more affection. The truth is, cheating is cheating, it's not right no matter who does it, marriages and people are complicated, but it does seem men are more often given a pass by the elders.
