The flying car is a possibilty for people who have never flown an airplane- I don't see it ever happening. After a few crashes into unseen powerlines, running out of fuel above a subdivision, over gross takeoffs with a crash and burn explosion in the shopping center, well, the cities will pass ordinances banning flying cars-- so the only place they can operate is from an airport-- not much of a reason to buy one, when a real airplane flies 2x faster and has 2x greater range.

The concept is wrong. looking at evolved creation: we have waddling/ flying and water diving birds the Gannets, the under water hunting but not flying penguins, we have the roadrunner, but only shortrange flyer. The superb flying Albatross, floater and waddler, but these are all small an best in only one field, compromises. for the same money: get a gorgeous drive, a gorgeous flight*. The flying cars will /would be a nightmare. particulaely if you would not be the pilot, just levitated by robotic control.
