    From the link...

Constable Daniel James Morris, of Mitchelton, was cut over the right eye with an axe, alleged to have been wielded by a 17-year-old youth, who was arrested on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm. Detective-Constable N. W. Bauer was punched by another man, who also was arrested on a charge of assault. A woman struck police' officers with a stick. Two representatives of The Courier- Mail, watching the police raid on a Mitchelton house, were chased by a man armed with a pitch-fork. Several tons of literature, hundreds of gramophone records, and some a mplifiers, were confiscated. Constable Morris was injured when he, Detective Constable Bauer and Plain-clothes Constable M. Brown in- tercepted a two-ton truck laden with property alleged to have been taken from the headquarters of the organisa- tion in Glen Retreat Road, Mitchel- ton.

They were ordered from the premises by a man who seized a pitchfork from a garden bed and ran down the path, waving it menacingly.

A member of the organisation speak ing to journalists over the front gate, said: ' We cannot under stand the Government's action, but we know we are in the rlght.'

Such mild mannered people... and this was in the 1940's when there was on the whole a hell of a lot more respect for law enforcement too...

While thousands of fellow Australians were overseas fighting against tyranny of Hitler.

What was in the heads that they thought this material was so precious to need be safe kept. It was all replaceable.

and.. when this and other linked cases finally went to court who paid for the lawyers? ... just wondering.

Ironic that the JW's were banned because they didn't want to fight in the war. Yet here they are weilding axes and pitchforks.
