*This question is posted on my errantly titled "German Only" post but it's now on page 3 and I'm realy interested in the answer.*

Expatbrit, I have a question about "proper" English spoken by your ilk over there across the pond. What the hell is up with the invisable "R" added to words that end with the letter "A"? For example:
    Written: We are in America.
Brit speak: We are in America.
    *compared with*
    Written: America is at war.
Brit speak: AmericER is at war.
Another example from a UK band, Oasis:
    Written: a champaign supernova
    Brit speak: a champaign supernova
    *compared with*
Written: a champaign supernova in the sky
Brit speak: a champaign supernovER in the sky
    Why the ER dude?

At last somebody brought it up. I've wondered about the same for years, but never bothered to ask anyone.

Yeah, and what's with the whole accent thing, anyway?

I mean, by now, we all know you are faking it just to look more cultured! It's almost embarassing - I mean, look, our Southern states are trying to emulate you guys, and see what happens!!

Y'all just gotta knock if off now, ya hear?
