You can tell Freddie Franz had no hand in this article ! The phrase that numbers in the Bible are only of significance within the prophecy in which they are used does not agree at all with inventing 2520 years from a chapter of Daniel that only mentions 7 years and then gives the fulfillment !

The WT has never gone in for numerology in the way that Gnostics and others did, but their playing around with numbers is just as bad, and just as silly.

As this article is well researched and quite sensible perhaps Ray Franz had a hand in it, or Ed Dunlap, if they were in bethel at this time.

I think certain numbers have a meaning. There is a pattern that's formed - with some anyway and you've just to make sense of it.

A bit off topic, but compare this article with what shows up in current Awake magazines.

In the 1966 article, there is actually some factual, well-researched historical information. It requires a bit of intelligence to follow. It's written at a high-school or so reading level. There are footnotes with page references which would prompt interested readers to follow up with the source.

In 2013, we get 16 page Awake magazines, where each page has 50% or more blank space. Articles are a page or 2 long, written at about a 5th grade reading level. Content is seldom more deep than "Sin bad. Bible good. Do good. Jehovah happy."

It's really sad, how dumbed down the message has become. Articles like this serve as a reminder that, for all of Freddy's wacked out ideas and twisted type / antitype hogwash, at least he had an intellect and expected his followers to have to think.

Its called numerology, with the basis for the magical numbers 3,4,7 and 12 coming from astrology.
