Cormac McCarthy wrote No Country for Old Men, the Road, the Border Trilogy (All the Pretty Horses...etc.)

and he wrote this play: SUNSET LTD.

It is a 2 man play.

The 2 men are SAMUEL L. JACKSON and TOMMY LEE JONES. Jones directs.

This is an astoundingly well acted play that deals with the unlikely subject of what being a christian is all about and what

    being a non-believer means.

It is subtitled in Spanish. If that doesn't distract you---you are in for a mind-bending treat.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TRY IT FOR JUST TEN MINUTES....

There is such an authentic sense of struggle in this.

I've always found that any dramatic presentation of conversation about life and death, the existence of god and such never

seems to ring true. However, I bought every single second of this as real.

    And the end is....so....believable.

    Hi Terry

Thanks for posting that. I watched the entire movie. Very powerful indeed. Made me think of Samuel Beckett. Not sure why.

It isn't often that both sides of a point of view can be legitimately presented without a bias.

I think Sunset Ltd. comes as close as it is possible to do.

I was thinking of all sorts of "Hollywood" endings and that completely misses the point that

there is only the conviction that you are correct and the other guy can be either convinced or is totally clueless.

Reality, fact and truth are always

staring down the Gun barrel of belief.

    Belief is the psychological state

in which an individual holds a

proposition or premise to be true.

    The relationship between belief

and knowledge is that a belief

is knowledge if the belief is true,

and if the believer has a justification

    (reasonable and necessarily plausible

assertions/evidence/guidance) for believing it is true.

A false belief is not considered to be knowledge,

even if it is sincere. A sincere believer in the flat earth

theory does not know that the Earth is flat.

    But he believes it.

We create the life we are living by what choices we are making from moment to moment.

The two men in this movie are not young men and both have suffered, but, differently.

One man has chosen, after a lifetime of bad choices, to hang on to hope and he hangs a Jesus on it.

The other man, after a lifetime of socially acceptable choices, cannot any longer embrace hope as an alternative to empty pretensions.

They not only challenge one another--they come to realize we don't make choices FOR each other--only for ourselves.

I recommend you watch at least 10 minutes of it to see if you like it.
