I guess they didn't realize we would have the internet and television which sort of puts to rest "rumors"ie. we know exactly what is happening 4000 miles away, well other than possibly whether or not lady gaga is wearing panties today, was that in the prophecy? many prima donnas will rise up and steal the spotlight in the last days. when they say oh lord lord who shall i seek? j-z? or method man? go to the ant you lazy one i shall say. i guess we should stop using the phrase "hindsight is 20/20" and instead make a new phrase instead which says "hindsight is the antichrist"
There will be rumors of wars during end times,oh ya?

or we could use the associative property and go directly for 20/20 = the antichrist. which i guess would give new meaning to 666?

I happen to think that "Matthew" and the other Gospel writers put a lot of this "prophecy" in to the mouth of Jesus, their agenda after all was to give impetus to the Jesus cult after the temple destruction of 70 C.E
So, the words would apply to the years leading up to 70 C.E and make Jesus out to be one hell of a prophet. A lot of it is also a bit like the conmen and women who are Spiritualists, they ask questions that apply to most people, they are not huge insights, and similarly the words in Matt 24 would apply to most periods of history, earthquakes and rumours of war etc etc
Why anybody should think there is future application of the words, and why in the 21st century, is beyond me, they were written for the people of the time, late 1st Century.
