There's a word that Karen Armstrong introduced to me; nihilism.
"But in their fear and anxiety about the encroachments of the secular world, fundamentalists - be they Jewish, Christian or Muslim - tend to downplay the compassionate teachings of their scripture and overemphasize the more belligerent passages. In so doing, they often fall into moral nihilism, of which there is no more telling example than the suicide bomber or hijacker."
That is, they throw away the very basis of their belief in their extremism and fear.

This group seems beyond fundamentalist…they seem to be employing the BITE model. I suspect that most people by nature would rather mind their own business and live and let live, but when people are born in or lured into such a group, it does override their better natures.
