Some curses seem to require that a deity to back up or act on the command, the curse to do harm to the cursed.

as examples, some Catholics use sacred items to curse. some Germans descend into the animal domain, some of the English lean on their sexuality, ancestry.

Some early Christians ( either awaiting the New Earth or the New heavens) were reported to curse. James 3:9,10.

Cursing has been defined to be "-the attempt of a weak mind to express itself with power-" if one thinks that it is backed by a deity, does that make it really powerful?
