Idiotic Creationists and Bible Fundies aside, I think a lot of people who "deny evolution" are not really doing so, what they are denying is the total lack of evidence for design and a creator. You can waste a lot of time proving Evolution by Natural Selection to such a person, only to find that, though they have never studied the subject, they do not really have a huge gripe with it.
What they are loath, or even frightened, to let go of, is the concept of a Sky Daddy, and the hope of an Afterlife.
They are afraid to grow up.
