The November 6, 2012, document filed by the Watchtower Society entitled "Church Defendants' Reply in Support of Motion to Subsitute or Reuce Bond on Appeal" puts the value of the Jehovah's Witnesses headquarters at Patterson, New York, at "more than $162,000,000".

This is not a game of monopoly. ' Cannot trade your Patterson for a Get Out of Jail card.
That admission must have really hurt. How do explain poverty to the rank and file when one property, one property alone is worth 162M. But it's ok, Grandma on SS will forgo medicine this month so she can throw in a few dollars into the donation box.

What it comes down to is that there is simply no provision in law to substitute out-of-state real property as security for the bond, nor does the law give discretionary powers to the court to reduce the bond. So the WTS is stuck with it.
