    “TRULY”!!!!!

    -

In both question and statement form, one word that’s overused to the point of nausea is truly.

    - Is that truly the case?

Got new for whoever is asking; either “that” is “the case” or “that” is not “the case”. There is no difference between “truly the case” and “the case”.

Why do folks use this term so much? Is it voodoo? Is it lack of vocabulary? Is it parroting? Is it just filler?

Why the hell do folks use this word like it’s candy?

They like the sound of their own voice is why lol...

"The Elements of Style" by Strunk and White talk about this point, and how if you can use 3 words instead of 4 always do it. If you can use 10 letters instead of 11 always do it. Boil your writing down, reduce, reduce, reduce it to the bare essentials, and then all the chaff is gone problem solved!

Now in that case, if only I could follow that advice, it would TRULY be the case!

Truly, Marvin, I just replied on your other/same "Truly" thread. Truly, this must be a mistake.

And thus the Simplified Version of the Watertower truly was born.
