"Captives of a Concept" and the Governing Body’s New Light

While waiting for this "new light " about the "faithful and discreet slave"to officially come out, "Captives of a Concept" already explained that in actual practice, the various terms that have been used to refer to "God’s organization" (including "the faithful and discreet slave") refer in fact to just "the men who have been hidden behind those terms" - the men of the Governing Body. – See Chapters 6 and 11

Raymond Franz figured this out long before the Governing Body just did. In his "Crisis of Conscience" he said…

"Whether the Governing Body members acknowledge it or whether they prefer not to think about it, the fact remains that in the crucial aspects of the authority and teachings THEY, AND THEY ALONE, ARE THE ORGANIZATION." Or, "They and they alone are ‘the faithful and discreet slave.’"

Apparently these men have finally been "thinking about it’ and now agree with what Ray Franz said almost 30 years ago. They also now agree with what "Captives of a Concept" started saying 8 years ago.

If what we are hearing is true, these men of the Governing Body will no longer be hidden behind that "slave." From now on they won’t just REPRESENT that "slave." They, and they alone, ARE that "slave" – at least unless or until some more "new light" gets turned on.

This new understudying may actually help some Witnesses begin to realize that they have simply been following these men all along, rather than the "faithful and discreet slave" that Jesus was referring to in Matthew 24:45.

It will be interesting to see how the Governing Body handles this matter with all of its consequences.

Don, thanks for commenting on this. You probably noticed a thread or two where some wondered if this would change your book.

Your post above show why, sadly, many JWs will find this "New Light" easy to adjust to because, in practice, most R&F either: 1, neither think about such things or; 2, already believe that the GB are the same as the FDS because the GB obviously operates that way.

I think it will be hardest for those that are in love with the JW Mythology of the FDS as it has been officially taught (although completely ignored in actual practice). Anyone that likes the idea of the collective anointed around the world being the FDS will have a hard time adjusting to the reality of 12,000 people suddenly and unceremoniously being given the boot.

The interesting thing is that the "Old Light" about the collective anointed never really made sense as there was no mechanism for it to work. This is of course why the WT publications never addressed it: it wasn't a fact in actual practice and there wasn't some clever mumbo-jumbo way to even try to explain how it might have worked. Nevertheless, many JWs in love with the myths about their religion romanticized the notion, however nonsensical it was. I believe it will be hardest for them to accept.

In the end most of them will no doubt fall in line with this newly minted distortion of "theology" because, "Hey, after all this is God's Visible Organization. Where else would I go anyway?"

It is not going to make a big impact, those who are still in are used to swallowing any old s**t the GB shoves at them, and the GB knows it.

It is interesting to see that the WT "new light" causes all their literature pre this new brain fart to be out of date, whereas dear Ray's book, and your excellent book Don, need no revision.

How does the info that came out a few months ago in Australia where a WTBTS attorney answered that there really is not a F&DS class.?

Anyone remember this case and the actual comments made by the attorney?

If what he said is true, then how does this play out with the nu lite?

Agreed! The "new light" basically says what everyone knew all along. Even the Witnesses know in their hearts who is in charge.

They've got that covered too bruh with two words, spiritual warfare, or even the belief that admitting of a slave class would be like tossing your pearls before swine.
