When I went to High School, we had mostly white students but in my nearby congregation, we had mostly black congregation with some very few white folks. I felt different back then. The other deaf brother in my congregation can't read or write. We were the only two deaf in that congregation. I had to isolate from the deaf worldly community and hang out with some JW folks that are not even interested to learn sign language. I just talk and read lips. It was so unbalanced situation.
What my life was like when I was in high school (a very short read)

So not only were you forced to be separate from the rest of the world, you were isolated within the community. That must have been very lonely for you and very difficult, particularly when you think of how teenagers want to fit in and be accepted.

Wow...that sort of isolation would be horrible! I hadn't really thought about it from the deaf perspective of being in a hearing cong... No worldly association...and no one that speaks sign...wow...
Hats off to you for getting out and finding freedom and friends!!!

That really is cold of the congregation not to even attempt to learn sign. I'm glad you got out!
