We all wonder who he is, but he had the full 30min service meeting this week... there were some predictably shocking comments from the Congregation, all based around how you cannot possibly give your best to Jehovah while Coach is screaming for your best, Cue scripture: "Cannot serve two Masters".

of course nobody says that it's just a made up story, nope, guilt the kids out of their dreams why dont ya.

    meet Andre!

There was a kid when I was growing up- the book study was held at their house- and he got to play football in HS. Not sure how he got away with it but I was pretty sure that meant he was doomed! I think he was a natural athlete, and anyway, some people have talents concentrated in a single area and if you take that away from them they dont shine as bright.

I'd forgotten how bad these videos are. The acting is awful. I could just about stomach watching a few seconds before I had to stop.

Are there any JWN veterans who were around this forum when this video came out? Was there much of an uproar at the time, anything like with Sparlock?

Kind of hard to convince JWs who are now adults to steer their children toward being a fultime pioneer or eldership.

They have Serena Williams, and Prince and many other celebrities as examples. A teen questioning why its acceptable for them to do what they love and have a talent for, but it is not for the teen will cause major issues. They see JWs in the congregation who went to college and are well off (even for these times) while they watch their parents, with no "higher education" struggle to pay bills and put food on the table ---- all while giving what they can to the money boxes at the Kingdom Hall.

The GB/WTBTS is out of touch. Topics like this would be left alone if they were smart. They keep shooting themselves in the foot. Love the stereotypes too. Opposing father - beard, works hard and often for the family....worldly friend - hat on backwards and baggy clothes...coach - an uncompromising a-hole. JWs get weird when you miss a meeting, but you're expected to shake off any responsibility outside of the organization without a care. Only the GB is worthy of your "commitment", Let your YES MEAN YES - unless the person you said YES to is Not a JW, then you can go back on your word...and if they bitch about it...call it persecution and feel proud.

I'd actually never seen these videos before (thankfully). Two things made me laugh, only because they just reinforce the stereotypes:

    1. The window washer in the opening scene.

    2. The unspiritual dad (of course because he has facial hair) is especially a bad influence because....*gasp*....he has a white collar desk job!!! Every single time the WTS illustrates someone putting work before spiritual things, it's almost always a picture of someone in a white collar job (yeah, the kind of job you probably had to go to college for).

Holy cats! Sure, spend your life riding around in a car rounding up new cult members, don't follow your dreams. That'll set up some cognitive dissonance, and later in your life you'll be stuck in an unhappy marriage, working at some menial job, and taking antidepressants. They call that "the real life."
