my company just installed Windows Intune. What does that mean for me? has my privacy just been diminished? should I be concerned about this?

I don't need a lesson in ethics about using my computer at work for personal reasons, I know all that. I just want to know what this means for me

    anyone familiar?

    thanks

No. Do not be concerned. We all must face assimilation.

I believe all this does is provide convenient cloud management to your IT department.

Even without this new software, you can assume that you have absolutely no privacy whatsoever. Nor does the law allow you any. If the hardware, software, and Internet access is paid for by your employer, you have zero privacy.

    Proceed accordingly.

PS: It takes no effort or tech skills whatsoever for your employer to generate a detailed report of every single thing you do on their equipment.

don't get me wrong, the worst thing I do on company time is come here, the boss is not a dictator about this kind of stuff I just wondered if the installation of Win Intune was him chaninging his tune on that a bit

Well leavingwt, that isn't totally accurate. Some kind of management/monitoring software has to exist on the PC or be running on the network to provide the type of reporting you describe. Of course, now with walls employer running intune, they WILL have that capability.

In regards to Internet activity, nothing needs to be installed on the PC itself. If the employer uses a product such as WebSense, a complete report of all Internet activity, searches, keystrokes, visit times/lengths can be generated with a couple of clicks. I've been presented a report with my activity in the past.

    Indeed.....

It helps to be an employee of the IT department where you can dime outsiders while the department looks out for each other through means of circumventing the process.

That being said, the only thing the organization I work for (higher educational) use these type of services and devices for is to keep people from browsing porn and known ad-ware sites rather than compiling reports of their internet activity.

We constantly remind people we are not the web police!!!!

wallsofjericho: In harmony with what out4good3 says, I would not assume that your employer has radically altered his view of your computer usage, simply based upon the installation of this particular software. However, I did want you to aware of the technology available to IT managers today. For those who haven't seen the detailed reports, it can be an eye-opening experience.
