Your warm invitation to join my new religion called "The Church of Conscience"!

I have started a new religion and this is your personal invitation to join it. I got the idea from Romans 2:14-15:

"For whenever people of the nations that do not have law do by nature the things of the law, these people, although not having law, are a law to themselves. They are the very ones who demonstrate the matter of the law to be written in their hearts, while their conscience is bearing witness with them and, between their own thoughts, they are being accused or even excused."

There's no sacred scriptures in this new religion. There's no requirement to believe in any God, or to pray. There is no chanting or meditation or religious customs or ceremonies or rituals or garb or vernacular or acoutrements of any sort. There's no church to attend or any proselytising. No donations to make, nothing to sign.

All you have to do is put your hand on your heart and sincerely pledge the following to yourself:

"I will follow my conscience always. I will listen to it carefully and act on it. I will never ignore it. I will respect, nurture and obey my conscience to the best of my ability all my life."

If you sometimes fail to live up to this pledge in little ways there is no damnation, punishment or vilification, no ostracism or shunning by anyone. Your only censure will be what your conscience tells you and any discomfort it gives.

The conscience is the foundation of all laws and religion. It is the seat of compassion and all ethical conduct. It is universal and powerful beyond understanding.

Sadly there will always be a small minority of persons who it seems are born without a conscience or who ignore it, sometimes to the great harm of others. But has religion made any difference to that?

There's no need to pretend to be a Jehovah's Witness or member of some other religion any longer. Just join my new religion and you will be fine. Just follow your conscience.

    Conscience bless you.

Already in mate, my conscience forced me to leave the WT/JW rubbish, and I have honed it and lived by it ever since.

Recently I made the biggest conscientious stand of my life, I am proud I had the strength to do so, but to not do so would have left me with nothing of myself to value.

What would we be worshipping in this church of yours? Ah, of course: ourselves. Fortunately, I already have such an outsized regard for myself that this should work really, really well.

Taking unnecessary oaths isn't allowed by my conscience, so I will never be able to be a member. However, I'm in general agreement with the goals of this religion.

Excellent post and concept yadda yadda 2!

Possibly you may be willing to explore a "small" refinement in response to some observations:

    Conscience is God given.

    Religion is manmade.

They are opposites and irreconcilable enemies.

Otherwise, I believe 100% spot on. I believe I do already belong to "the church of Conscience".

    Good post.

I think a lot of beliefs start out this way then someone decides they need clarify what it means to follow your conscience so they write "The Ten Steps to Following Your Consciense". Then there is the seminar. Then the super star speaker on the subject. The weekly meetings etc.... and before you know it its a religion or even worse a cult.

I believe that just as light must have a source so too must conscience.

The source is your mind. Even if its God behind the mind behind the conscience, you're still in harmony with God! Don't need a church to do that.

I like churches, the buildings I mean, they fascinate me, here in the U.K every village has at least one, towns have several, and cities a huge number.

Many are unique, having evolved over centuries, some go back to pre-christian times in origin.

But organised religion, I have no time for, most times when I visit a church it is empty, when the congregation is there, it is still empty of truth, as is every Kingdom Hall.
