Sneaky magazine subscription tactic.

I recently cancelled my subscription to Cook's Illustrated. Today, I cancelled my subscription to Popular Mechanics.

Both for the same reason. They have adopted the tactic of billing me for a renewal because "you agreed to the automatic renewal" option, or words to that effect. "Your renewal fee is now due"

I have subscribed to both of these publications for years (on a year to year basis) and probably would continue, but this obnoxious and dishonest marketing ploy pisses me off.

Have any of you experienced this?

yep, recently received a number of mags I never ordered. When the bill arrived, I sent it back as no such address. I never saw the mags again
