Spike Milligan, one of my favourite comedians and famous for being one of the Goons, passed away today.

He devoted some of his anarchic sense of humour to his poetry.
As a small tribute I would like to share one of his poems:

    Well Bread.

If you cast your bread on the waters,
    It returns a thousand fold,
So it says in the Bible,
    That’s what I’ve been told.

(So) I cast my bread on the waters,
It was spotted by a froggy,
And the bits of bread he didn’t eat
    Just floated back all soggy.

I loved some of Spike's rhymes and limericks.

These are two I remember from my youth:

There was a young man from Darjeeling
Who boarded a bus at Ealing.
    It said on the door,
    "Don't spit on the floor"
So he stood up and spit on the ceiling!

    Or this one:

The boy stood on the burning deck
When all but he had fled.
    Twit!

    Vale dear Spike.

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

I saw Spike live on stage. He said:

You think I'm mad, don't you?

    Us: Yes!

You think I'm stupid, don't you?

    Us: Yes!!

You think I'm stark raving bonkers, don't you?

    Us: YES! YES!! YES!!!

    You paid to come in.......................!

    Thanks dmouse,

I grew up listening to Badjelly the witch, I loved that story.

Every Sunday morning there would be a kids programme on the radio.

I would grab my pillow and blanket, curl up by my grandmothers old valve radio, wait for it to warm up, and then listen tot he stories.

    A truly talented man.

No, in Sussex. (Considerably further north of Sydney)
