A window-cleaning robot that won a gold medal at the 2010 iENA Nuremberg International Trade Fair was launched in Taiwan today.

The robot, named Winbot, was invented by local inventor Chao Chih-mo and uses magnets that allow the device to be attached to both sides of windows up to 10 millimeters thick to clean both surfaces at the same time.

The invention is able to detect the cleaning area on its own using automatic navigation technology and infrared sensors, said the company.

The robot, which is priced at under NT$10,000 (US$330), can operate at least five times more quickly that human window cleaners.

That could put hundreds of thousands of JW's out of a job :D

I think you're missing the point. Most people would still prefer to keep their JW window cleaner as they offer greater honesty, reliability and efficiency than any robot and will continue working after armagedon.

Just a little stat on window washers- when I pioneered in the late 60s to early 70s the pioneers who washed windows and did janitorial work were making around $25 per hour, which was a pretty income then, by the late 80s and early 90s those same jobs were still making about the same.

Good. That means they are going to have to diversify. You already have robots that vacuum and mop floors. Now, windows. Self-cleaning toilets are already reality in parts of the world. Looks like the witlesses are going to have to actually do something worthwhile--that is, something that actually requires half a brain or the ability to install holiday decorations.

That is, unless they want to collect welfare so they can pious-sneer and waste half their welfare checks toilet papers on the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund.

How about robots that go door to door and regurgitate Watchtower nonsense? Who would be able to tell the difference?

The robot wouldn't falsly report how many hours they'd spent preaching.
