No body or group in the hebrew sriptures ( O/T ) ever identified themselves as a Jehovah`s Witness

No body or group in the Christian Greek sriptures ( N T ) ever identified themselves as a Jehovah`s Witness

In fact the word" Jehovah" never appeared before the 12th century

It was a name invented by a Roman Catholic clergyman

A tradition that has lasted the test of time by both Catholic and Protestant`s to this day

And Jehovah`s Witnesses blindly follow this tradition to this day,at the same time condeming christendom

C.T Russell never claimed to be a Jehovah`s Witness

Nor did any of his followers

They beleived that the Christian Greek scriptures showed that Jesus Christ was the cheif witness, that every knee would bow in heaven on earth and under the earth to bear witness that jesus was the son of God and all should worship him php.2:10 compare Rom.11:4 Dan chapt. 3

Acts 11:26 --Young's Literal Translation "and having found him, he brought him to Antioch, and it came to pass that they a whole year did assemble together in the assembly, and taught a great multitude, the disciples also were divinely called first in Antioch Christians." Note the word divinely..

Spot on Smiddy, and something the active JW never considers, they are befuddled by the lying claims of the WT as to how early Christians lived and believed.

The "Holy Writings" for the 1st Century Christians were the canon accepted by the Jewish Priests at the (functioning) Temple. These books included Isaiah, which identified the nation of Israel as a Witness to their God.

Jesus did not cancel that ancient appointment, he showed where the Jews of his day were lacking in their service to their God.

No Jew of that time, even Jesus himself, would have styled themselves a "Witness" of any god, it was their birthright to be of God's chosen nation, their ethnicity was all they needed as a label.

Rutherford knew that to market his religion it had to be different in many ways, otherwise why should the public even look at it ?

Hence he adopted the laughable 1914 stuff, insisted his gang were chosen by Jesus in 1919, and in the early thirties invented the name Jehovah's Witnesses, quoting a couple of verses from Isaiah that patently have no application to people not born Israeli.

So, the name was a marketing tool, and not a very good one, the public find it strange and instinctively feel there is something not right about it, if they investigate the name they will find it is wrong, so wrong, on every level.

Even in the NWT there is no reference to Jehovah's Witness; but there is to "witnesses of Jesus" "witnesses of me"

(Acts 1:6-8) . . .When, now, they had assembled, they went asking him: "Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?" 7 He said to them: "It does not belong to YOU to get knowledge of the times or seasons which the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction; 8 but YOU will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon YOU, and YOU will be witnesses of me both in Jerusalem and in all Ju?de´a and Sa?mar´i?a and to the most distant part of the earth."

(Revelation 17:6) . . .And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the holy ones and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus.. . .

(Revelation 1:9) . . .I John, YOUR brother and a sharer with YOU in the tribulation and kingdom and endurance in company with Jesus, came to be in the isle that is called Pat´mos for speaking about God and bearing witness to Jesus.

(Revelation 12:17) . . .And the dragon grew wrathful at the woman, and went off to wage war with the remaining ones of her seed, who observe the commandments of God and have the work of bearing witness to Jesus.

(Revelation 19:10) . . .All I am is a fellow slave of you and of your brothers who have the work of witnessing to Jesus. Worship God; for the bearing witness to Jesus is what inspires prophesying."

(Revelation 20:4) . . .Yes, I saw the souls of those executed with the ax for the witness they bore to Jesus . . .

I know it`s a big ASK , just maybe if we hammered those scriptures home we may just make a dent in their armour.
