They can be very similar. It depends on the situation and the person giving the criticism or guidance. I think it depends very much on the motivation of the person giving the criticism. Are they just being mean-spirited, or are they trying to guide you to a better place, or to make better decisions?
Criticism tends to cut someone down. It can ONLY be guidance (imo) if advice is given to build you up as well. (that would be constuctive criticism, I guess) And that is what I believe guidance is: advice or teaching that builds you up and leads you to a better place, and making better decisions.
