Twice in my adult life I saw all the value of my stocks disappear over night. Because of need, I had to sell stocks at a lower price than I paid for them. I think it's worse for ordinary people like me, who were trying to build a nest egg, to have everything disappear than for rich people who have other money as well.
I used to joke that my retirement plan depended on a total collapse of the economy. Not so funny now, eh?
