WOW! This is cooler than cool! At first I was wondering what the point of a wingsuit was, seeing that this is technically GLIDING not flying. It does allow for a much more controlled and extended decent, however, instead of one just dropping straight down like a stone. Another great idea taken from nature and the animal kingdom.

Yeah it is gliding (flying) vamp . . . at 160-180 kmh!

I jumped a wingsuit of lesser technology in the early 80's from a plane. The sensation of forward movement was discernable . . . yet those on the ground said I looked like a meteor!

Things have come a long way since then. The suit hangs loose like a baggy overall . . . and then inflates using a slightly more porous fabric on the lower surface, providing the wing surfaces. The flying is done purely with body movement . . . "feeling" the air. Much like a bird using it's feather extensions. Must be the closest thing to natural flight as you can get. Your animal comparison is spot on.

I just wish I was 20 something and bullet proof again!
