The Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant. Bought the book last week and find it a great read. I am up to the beggining battles of the Civil war.
By chance, yesterday began the local 3 day "Sternwheeler Days" event (Google it). Every year they convert Thunder Island into the Mountain Man Festival. These folks really get into the old days with authentic costumes, tents, blacksmith shop and lots of black powder musket and cannon shooting. We live very close by and the sounds fit into the narrative I'm reading. This morning we walked down to the encampment and I was allowed to shoot an original Civil war era .72 caliber musket. Loud! Lots of gun powder smoke.
