Ecclesiastes 7:26 -29 One discovery: A woman can be a bitter pill to swallow, full of seductive scheming and grasping. The lucky escape her; the undiscerning get caught. At least this is my experience—what I, the Quester, have pieced together as I've tried to make sense of life. But the wisdom I've looked for I haven't found. I didn't find one man or woman in a thousand worth my while. Yet I did spot one ray of light in this murk: God made men and women true and upright; we're the ones who've made a mess of things. The Message BibleThe above version makes things a little clearer.

    Ahhhh . . . so let me get this straight Syl . . .

The WTS have completely missed the bus when slapping together their fancy NWT . . . and in the course of trying to explain their own rendition, they have mystified themselves to the point where they figure Solomon must actually have been referring to Jesus Christ . . . who was not to appear for some 300 odd more years. This makes complete sense to me now.

    God's channel of communication indeed!

that makes a lot more sense...

also really shows up the bad NWT and some even worse attempt to force it to make sense.

So why is it always the woman's fault? Here, let me just fix this for ya...

Ecclesiastes 7:26 -29 One discovery: A woman can be a bitter pill to swallowlying abusive a$$hole full of seductivedeceitful scheming and grasping. The lucky escape herhim; the undiscerning get caught. At least this is my experience—what I, the Quester, have pieced together as I've tried to make sense of life. But the wisdom I've looked for I haven't found. I didn't find one man or woman insee the beauty in many who wish to and work towards making this world a better place. Yet I did spot onemany a ray of light in this murk: God made men and women true and upright; we'rebut men are the ones who've made a mess of things with their lust for money and power. Just wanted to say that the finger can be pointed both ways. Don't get me wrong... I am not a man hater. But many of the men in my life have been exactly as I have described above, wanting to control and push down for reasons I do not understand, other than to get their own way without considering others. I know that all men are not like this.

Dr. Hunter 'Patch' Adams stated in an interview "All the problems in the world are due to men." War and violence are about money, power, and controlling people. These ideals are aligned with the Bible.

    This I agree with . . .

War and violence are about money, power, and controlling people.

    Heaven . . .

Recent times tell us this phenomenon is not gender specific . . .

I think of people such as Hillary Clinton, Pelosi, Palin, Allbright, Rice, Thatcher . . .

The current Prime Minister of Australia is Julia Gillard . . . Aust commits it's military to Afghanistan, Iraq, Timor.

The Prime Minister of New Zealand for 12 years, Helen Clark, also committed military to Afghanistan Iraq and Timor.

While it's true that the male gender has dominated . . . I think Dr Adams summation . . .

"All the problems in the world are due to men."

    is a slight overstatement really.

Humans tend to behave in similar ways when GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY . . . the nature of men provides them more opportunity to control

You and Solomon may well have had similar experiences from a different point of view.

So why is it always the woman's fault?

It's plainly not . . . but my point is, it's futile looking to apportion blame, especially gender based, when all Humans display poor judgement resulting in harm to others when given the opportunity.

Changing the words around won't fix that . . . or was that your point?

Heavens ( ) no! I definitely don't think you agree with Solomon, oz.

I guess for a long time I have taken the words of the Bible and altered them like I have done above when the scriptures disparaged women.

sizemik, thousands of years of history show men to be the primary perpetrators of violence. I do agree that recent history shows women beginning to step into these roles as well.

I think Dr. Adams' statement comes from his observations of 40+ years in the medical world, not just in North America but around the world as well and his experiences in these countries from what the people are telling him and his observations in the hospitals. He says his first initial visit with a patient is 4 hours long, getting to know the person, who they are, what strife they are dealing with. Primarily he says there are enormous self esteem issues with people, alot of abuse issues, and definitely issues amongst doctors who feel they are above their staff and their patients.

You and Solomon may well have had similar experiences from a different point of view.

Perhaps although I really don't know. I personally don't paint all men with the same brush. Just because some of the men in my life were/are jerks doesn't mean all men are. I don't use my own personal negative experiences as a one size fits all like Solomon did.

Changing the words around won't fix that . . . or was that your point?

Partly. The other part is to show how similar words and themes can apply to men as well as women and that one of the Bible's agendas was to push down and oppress women along with those who did not fit a certain definition of holiness or righteousness. I believe the word 'abomination' is the ancients' word for this. I guess my brain kind of does a "What would the Bible be like if it was written entirely by women?" I have a real hard time with the scriptures that oppress and fear monger.
