  Hi all,

  Those of you who are/were JW's, do you remember how the beginning sign of the great tribulation was the declaration of "peace and security" right before the sudden destruction of the nations? The JW's applied 1 Thessalonians 5 to their own impending salvation from this evil world.

  So with bated breath, JW's have been watching for this sign -- this declaration, to come from somewhere, anywhere!! Could it be the United Nations, or perhaps the world's superpowers?? Speculation abounds. 1986 was the UN's "Year of Security", prompting many JW's to wonder if Armageddon was going to come during the 1980's.

  Now that the "WAR ON TERRORISM" has started, we have a LONG way to go. Afghanistan is by no means the last American target. The Afghan's western neighbor, Iran, is a likely next target for the Americans.

  American president Bush and his secretary of defense have said that this war is very likely to take AT LEAST 10 years.

  So with this in mind, there is no way any 'peace and security' declaration can happen any time soon.

  So now, shouldn't the JW's take that as an indication to go ahead and take some vacations, do some reading, put time into self-growth, make some retirement income, and not listen to the WT Society's declaration of URGENCY, since Armageddon is evidently quite a long way off?

  In addition to the above reasons to ease up on pressuring their rank and file JW's to go out into the ministry, they oughtta realize that the statistics show little or no growth, so people are not responding to the message of the JW's. And the upcoming revelation of the child sexual abuse scandals will further infuriate the general public against JW's. The WTS seems to be failing when it comes to logic and public relations.

  I'm sure the WTS will come out with some crap about testing and sifting, regarding these embarrassing new revelations of pedophiles, U.N., etc. Any negative OR positive event regarding the WTS can be spun to their satisfaction.

  BUT! Who will believe it? Probably those JWs who are corporate ass-kissers, and ignorant JWs who won't do research, etc.

  Gopher, you obviously just don't get it...

  If there's a war, it means the end is very near, because wars are a part of the "composite sign" given by Jesus.

  If there isn't a war, then the nations are working to bring about peace, so the final declaration of "peace and security" is about to happen.

  Either way, the end is coming ANY DAY NOW!!

  Similar reasoning:

  If the organization increases in size, Jehovah is blessing his people.

  If the organization decreases in size, Jehovah is sifting his people.

  BUT...

  If another religion increases in size, Satan is decieving many along the "broad path" to destruction.

  And if another religion decreases in size, the "waters of the Euphrates are drying up", proving that the end is near.

  Either way, no matter what happens,

  I think the number of years until (H)Armaggedon is the kind of number known to scientists as an "imaginary(SP?) number", or a number that doesn't actually exist, eg. PI is an imaginary number, 1/3 etc are imaginary numbers...ehehe!
