I got to thinking about this today. What other business would survive for very long if they had the JW business method?

First, they hire on workers to sell their literature... except they don't pay them. That alone would sink your business by not having the manpower.

Second, they somehow actually get their workers to PAY THEM through "voluntary" donations!

OUTLAW says that the WT is run by idiots but frankly, I think they are run by geniuses! How else could they manage something so ridiculous and actually get it to work?

Truly, they must have Jehovah's blessing...

Rutherford set the business going using that method, and he said "Religion is a snare and a racket" , and he should know 'coz he had just invented such a snare and racket.

It does continue to work, because it has no real overheads, congos, circuits etc. are self-funded. Contributions pay for bethel homes and literature.

Where the Business Model has an Achilles Heel is, like all Ponzi schemes that never really pay out, it relies on new members joining and sending in their $$$.

With the attrition rate in the parts of Society and the World that have proper Internet access being what it is, their easy source of new suckers, and therefore money, is drying up.

What will the "Geniuses of Brooklyn" do about that ? Wait on Jehovah ?

All religions are based on this business model.

Promise your acolytes the most splendid future they can possibly imagine. All they have to do to get it is (1) be loyal to your group's ideology forever and (2) give you all their money. Oddly enough, the future you promise doesn't materialize because you can never actually have the future - it's elusive, just out of reach.

Side benefits (for the time being) are tax exemption on all the money that's donated to you, all the property that is owned by your conglomerate, having a volunteer labour force, and the freedom to indoctrinate the minds of those whose trust you have gained. Additionally, you are never required to back up the claims you make with actual evidence. Oh, and being pretty much on par with an almighty deity, having the authority to tell people how to run their lives, including when they must make the ultimate sacrifice, down to the minutiae of their private activities, thoughts and feelings (or else!) - that's always a good gig.

I remember reading a personal account posted at Freeminds by a JW guy who was called in to asses how Bethel was being run, and ended up telling the PTB there that if it had been a regular company, the place would have to be completely overhauled.
