'Snorre Valen, a member of the Norwegian coalition government's Socialist Left Party, has nominated the website, saying it is a gauge of transparency in the world.

He says jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo won the Nobel Peace Prize last year for his struggle for human rights, democracy and freedom of speech in China.

Mr Valen says those are the very same values WikiLeaks is committed to globally.'

    Cool, eh?

I'm all for free speech S but J Assange is a strange one... Wikileaks goal is complete transparency, a kind of nerds anarchist state but JA has been berating the Aus government for not supporting him in his legal battles. I reckon the weakest link in Wikileaks is J A. That is not to say he is guilty of stealing secret intelligence from the U.S. That appears to be in the lap of the military and their weak security. Let's see....

Over 50 yrs ago, eisenhower warned about the encroaching power of the growing american military industrial complex. Somebody actually stands up and does something to push back that power, and people start yelling to crucify him. It appears that people love their military industrial masters, at least those who have been overcome by it's manufactured consent. As in '1984', big brother works through gentle persuasion w it's subjects.

Govt always takes as much as people give it. Whether assange is a thief is a matter of perspective. Whoever wins this battle, will get to label the other, the loser evil. This is how it has always worked. Assange doesn't have the media of persausion at his beck and call, as does the military industrial complex.

Thankyou, doofdaddy, for your comment, and refraining from calling him a thief. I am not claiming that assange doesn't have quirks and misjudgements. I'm sure he does.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Will he be tried and convicted, totally legally, like saddam hussien and satan the devil, and then executed for his crimes and assigned his place in the gallery of evil, along w satan, hitler, saddam, and other embodiments of evil? Or, will he be redeemed by the turning tide of which the egyptian uprising may be a part? Did wikileaks, perhaps, have just a smidgen of influence in kicking off the uprising?

Only time will tell. It is in the interests of the US gov to keep him alive, as it would show a "tolerance" of differing opinion but like a duck swimming, there is more going underneath than meets the eye. The Swedes will be under much pressure for a trial and conviction. He was a silly bastard for bedding those women in a country well known to have the strictest sexual assault laws in the world. Does he think he is above the law....? Ooops he does! LOL!

From what i understand, it wasn't proven that it was assault. However, when the establishment has it's sights on someone, it will find something and use it to get the person. It could be failing to stop at a stop sign. If it can't find anything, it can do other things, such as stings.
