OK, here's the situation. I have a good friend who I grew up with and now lives in Mobile, AL. Of course, when I was d/f'd a couple of years back, all contact was gone. Nevertheless a while back a band I was in played a show at a bar in Mobile. Well, this old buddy shows up, talks to me all night, drinks like a fish, talks about how he finally lost his virginity, and actually smoked a couple of cigarettes. I haven't talked to him since. I know he is an active member in his congregation. I also know him and his family are full of shit. Anything I can do?

on the occassions I've seen local jws doing things that
would probably get them in trouble I just ignore it,
they'll either get caught by one of their own or they'll
carry on doing whatever they do best,
They have the choice of leaving or leading double lives
personally I think staying in is punishment enough, forever
looking over their shoulders in case someone catches them doing
the things theyd rather be doing.

Ask him if he has doubts about his beliefs?

Give him information about some of the aspects of the WTBTS that, as a person on the edge, he might be very relieved and gratified to learn?

Funny you should bring up the subject of leading a double life. I see it not only in JW adults, but in their kids too. I have JW kids over my house all the time, some of them Elder’s kids and let me tell you, many of them are quite different when they are out of sight of the parents.

Some may think of this as spying (it is) but one of the things I do is monitor where my kids go on the Internet. My kids go to some stupid sites, but not porn sites, not on my computer anyway. Although I must say one kid has a fascination with Britney Spears. However, I’m sorry to say the Elders kids are a different story; porn sites are the fist place they seem to go.

I did not rat them out, as I don’t feel it’s my place to, I also know all about raging hormones, and after all I was no angel at their age, Come to think of it, I even had a subscription to playboy when I was their age. Then again maybe I should tell their parents. I am very torn on this issue, any opinions?

One thing I did do is let my kids know that I KNOW and because of that they told me “boy dad that ain’t nothing, you should know about some of the other stuff they did”; and then went into a litany of things a few of them did. Wow I realized right then and there just how much of a double life some of these kids lead. I also realized how worthwhile it has been to ensure my kids could come to their mom or me and talk about anything, because they really do.

If there is one saving grace about these kids leading double lives, I think it is that they will likely drop the shackles of the Watchtower as soon as they are out of the house. What do you think?

The double life!!! Yup, that was the shocker!
I am an outsider, and I had thought JW kids would all be "perfect". Boy, was I naive. It just blew me away when I learned how many JW kids were allowed to drink and party till all hours as long as they were with other JW kids. This, while the mother of one of them was telling me how "wholesome" JW kids are. I do think that many of them have a bit of a fixation on sex. They are told so much about not doing it from such a young age, yet not allowed to deal with their emerging sexuality. They seem to think it is something they can't control (like animals) which is why they HAVE TO HAVE chaperones.
I was so, so naive about Jehovah's Witnesses!

There was a witness brother I had business dealings with and I had to show him the locations of a couple of clients just after I was disfellowshipped. For some reason, he felt that now I was disfellowshipped he could use the 'fucking' word every other sentence.
