Keeping a healthy bank account?

    What do you make of the point in the Feb 1 2001 WT, page 18 parag15.

    'Let us accrue something positive in a spiritual sense each day, building, as it were, a healthy, spiritual bank account.'

    Why? Good works are good works but does their value accumulate some how as funds do in a bank account?

    I thought this was an unfortunate illustration/metaphor. It gives the idea of working for salvation. What about man's indebtedness due to imperfection and the charges each day for 'sin'? Surely this makes a daily reckoning pointless.

    Yes, it has the implications that you can negate the effect of sins by doing good. We can either not sin so we don't have to do any good things (is that the JW motto) or we can sin like billyo and then work our butt off to make up for it.
    What would be neat is if we got a statement every month so we could decide what we could get away with...
